They can't be serious... but they are! The kangaroo population in Australia is growing rapidly, and for their good behavior, the government is planning to SHOOT THEM ALL DOWN! WTF?!?

Australia is the only continent in the world with these big, beautiful creatures. The Australian government claims the kangaroos will starve or over-graze the grass for other creatures, but what is so hard about rounding them up and shipping them to wildlife preserves? I bet that there is plenty of land in Africa where they could run wild, and not overrun the population because of the big predators. Not to mention there are zoos that would even pay to have a few kangaroo.

I can't believe any government would feel opening fire on animals near your capital city is the way to get things done.

There's the saying that you can tell everything about a man by the way he treats women... what about the way he treats animals?

I wish Steve Irwin was still alive. He wouldn't have allowed this to happen. He would capture a CROCODILE with his BARE HANDS just to move it to a place it could live peacefully. If he can show compassion for a ferocious reptile, why is it a stretch with an intelligent marsupial?

***EDIT

Okay, so I'm back. I had to talk to someone, and I decided the Australian Prime Minister was the way to go. I remember how great he was after Steve died, so I'm crossing my fingers he gets it in time, but the form sounded pretty official. You can write to the PM too! Contact the Australian PM

XOXOXO,
Jen :)

Pet Food Recall - Are poisons still lurking?

The past few weeks, everyone in our household is paying a little closer attention to our Alaskan Malamute - Husky mix named Fargo. He's a pound puppy, and sweet as can be, but lately we can't help but to wonder... what if he has eaten some of the contaminated dog food? When "Iams - good for life" is actually cutting them short, what do you do? More and more brands are being recalled, because more brands of pet food are finally being tested. (For a full list, click here for the gov site.)

It's hard to believe that the main ingredient in rat poison is showing up in our furry family's food. There has never been any sort of standard for dog or cat food; "meat meal" is true mystery meat, and no one cares from where or from what that "meat" came from. Often, to save money, pet food companies will use cheap corn for the bulk of the product, resulting in the equivalent of junk food for your pets. How many animals have to die before the government reigns in this unscrupulous industry?

As the recalls keep coming, there are a few things you can do for your piece of mind. The easiest is to buy certified organic pet food; this kind goes through the same testing standards as human food. Another great way is to feed your animals a balanced diet of "real" food. A can of tuna is only a few cents more than a can of cat food; your local butcher will often have mark-downs that have only a few more days left of freshness - but don't stop there! Animals need to eat their veggies too! Homemade Dog Food Guide Homemade Cat Food Guide

Best Wishes to all... and remember if your pet looks listless, is losing weight or has dark urine, please see a vet immediately, these are signs of liver failure.

XOXOXO,
Jen :)

Welcome to the Fab 'n' Furry Blog

Hello there friends, both furry and not!

This is my brand new blog. This time, I won't talk about what type of cereal I am eating, but hopefully we can talk about what our animals are eating... or not. I might write a poem, but these heartbreaks won't be about men. I want to cause some buzz about our loyal furry friends, our pets, our wildlife, and our"guinea pigs" that save our lives.

Besides this blog, I am starting a line of merchandise aimed at promoting the well-being of all animals. I want to do this in a positive way; people don't need any more negativity or guilt. Animals have the potential of unconditional love, and everyone needs more of that in their lives.

XOXOXO,
Jen :)
